Job summary

Randstad Canada is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Test Technician to join our high-performing team in Ottawa. This 6-month contract offers $23.00/hour plus shift premiums for afternoon and night shifts, with potential for extension or permanent hire.

You will perform routine and advanced testing on medical device components, maintain documentation, and support Process Engineering and R&D efforts in a GMP environment. A science background and strong teamwork are required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Post-secondary education in a field of science or a related technical discipline (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and capable of troubleshooting basic technological/software issues.
  • Lab Knowledge: Working knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and general lab safety protocols.
  • Soft Skills: Proven ability to communicate effectively in a team, prioritize multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment, and a willingness to speak up regarding safety or quality concerns.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to perform extended periods of detailed visual inspection.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stretch, and occasionally lift boxes up to 30 lbs.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adjust work hours for overnight shifts or on-call support as scheduled.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Test Laboratory Manager, you will ensure the integrity of cards, readers, and capillary tubes through rigorous testing protocols.
  • Product Testing: Execute routine performance checks, including Adaptive Process Control, incoming material verification, and Lifetime event testing using written instructions.
  • Equipment Care: Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of lab equipment, documenting all activities in maintenance logs with guidance from senior technicians.
  • Inventory Management: Track laboratory supplies, manage in-house stock, and communicate reorder points to ensure zero downtime.
  • Process Improvement: Participate in equipment improvement efforts and experimental testing for Process Engineering and R&D.
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records for all testing processes and results.
