Job summary

Alberta Precision Labs at Sturgeon Community Hospital seeks a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to provide high-quality clinical laboratory service, including phlebotomy, urinalysis, specimen handling and testing. You will support procurement, processing and reporting of results in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Requirements include completion of an accredited MLA program and recent phlebotomy experience; EPIC Beaker experience and familiarity with Rover/SPECTRE are preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Must have a recent demonstrated experience performing phlebotomy within the last year.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality laboratory service including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens.
• Perform phlebotomy for adults, children and infants and conduct urinalysis.
• Report results and troubleshoot problematic specimens; assist reception duties as required.

Working along with other Health Care Professionals, the Laboratory Assistant I will provide Laboratory support to the Sturgeon Community Hospital. The primary responsibilities include phlebotomy for adults, children and infants using both macro and micro techniques while providing patient centered care, performing urinalysis, specimen entry, specimen processing and transport, troubleshooting problem specimens, and reception duties.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must have a recent demonstrated experience - practicum or worked experience - performing phlebotomy within the last year (12 months).

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience with EPIC Beaker - practicum or worked experience - within the last year is strongly preferred. Recent experience with urinalysis within the last year is preferred. Recent experience with data entry, specimen processing and troubleshooting is preferred. Recent experience using Rover is preferred. Worked experience with SPECTRE is an asset.
