Job summary

Alberta Health Services (AHS) in Edmonton seeks a Laboratory Assistant I to provide high-quality laboratory support at Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Responsibilities include phlebotomy for all ages, specimen accessioning, troubleshooting, processing, and testing, with reception duties as needed.

This role requires recent phlebotomy training or equivalent experience, completion of an approved Medical Laboratory Assistant program, and comfort working independently or in a team.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Recent phlebotomy training or equivalent work experience required.
• Recent urinalysis training or equivalent work experience preferred; EPIC system competency and instrumentation familiarity are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide laboratory support including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens.
• Perform phlebotomy for adults, children and infants using macro and micro techniques.
• Accession and troubleshoot specimens and perform reception duties as needed.
• Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

Job description

Working along with other Health Care Professionals, the Laboratory Assistant 1 will provide laboratory support to the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton. In this role, your primary responsibilities include phlebotomy for adults, children, and infants using both macro and micro techniques. You will also be accessioning patient specimens, troubleshooting problem specimens, and performing reception duties. You have excellent computer literacy. Previous experience with healthcare information systems is an asset.Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team, you can develop and maintain positive working relationships with your colleagues and other healthcare professionals you may interact with.
