Job summary

Alberta Precision Labs in Edson is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to provide high-quality service in the clinical laboratory. You will perform a range of functions including handling, processing, dispatching and testing specimens, as well as reporting results.

The position is part-time (0.50 FTE) with a 2-week shift cycle and day-evening-weekend shift pattern, with a posting end date of 10-Nov-2026 and a start date around 20-Nov-2026. Training in phlebotomy is provided on the job.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation.

Additional Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.
