Job summary

EXP is seeking a Lab Manager/Supervisor in Burnaby, BC to lead the Soils and Materials Laboratory. You will manage operations for soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete testing, ensure quality and safety, and coordinate with engineers, project managers, and clients across Western Canada.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years in construction materials testing and at least 3 years in leadership, with CCIL/AASHTO/ASTM knowledge and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or higher in civil engineering technology/engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years of construction materials testing experience.
• 3+ years of laboratory leadership or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of a soil, aggregate, asphalt and concrete testing lab.
• Coordinate testing schedules and allocate resources to meet deadlines.
• Provide technical oversight for geotechnical materials testing.
• Review and approve lab tests and reports.
• Maintain CCIL accreditation and quality management systems.
• Ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, CSA specs.
• Oversee equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Lead safety programs per WorkSafeBC requirements.
• Recruit, train, and mentor lab staff.
• Monitor project schedules, budgets, and profitability.
• Support clients, audits and continuous improvement.
