Job summary

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is seeking Lab Instructors for Nursing – Continuing Education on a contractual basis at the Regina campus. Duties include preparing labs, teaching skills, managing supplies, and evaluating student performance in various nursing labs.

Travel may be required; multiple contracts are available with hours per student variable. Knowledge of online theory for courses and prior adult education experience are desired.

Qualifications

• Must have experience teaching adults in a nursing context.
• Ability to engage students in a simulated learning environment.
• Ability to teach online theory for listed nursing courses.

Responsibilities

• Lab – create daily outline, prepare room, demonstrate skills, answer questions, perform skill testing, submit paperwork.

Continuing Education Nursing courses require various labs be taught throughout the year. Lab dates, locations, and number of instructors are dependent on the students enrolled for each intake. Lab contracts will be offered to the theory instructor first but additional lab instructors may be needed. Travel may be required. The following courses require lab instructors:

• IV Therapy Blood & Blood Products
• Nasogastric Tube Insertion
• Tracheostomy Care
• Health Assessment for LPNs & RNs
• Safe Medication Administration
• Basic Wound Care
• Catheterization
• Nursing Skills Refresher in Focused Settings
• Pharmacology in Nursing

Job Duties

Lab – Create an outline for the day, prepare the room and supplies prior to the start time and cleanup afterwards, teach and demonstrate related skills, provide scenarios and answer student’s questions, complete performance skill testing as required, submit any required paperwork to Continuing Education.

Qualifications, Skills, Abilities And Experience

Description Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with a post secondary nursing degree.
• Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
• A minimum of 3 years recent and relevant nursing experience.
• Experience teaching adults.
• The ability to effectively engage students in a simulated learning environment.
• Recent experience teaching the online theory for any/all of the courses listed above.

Multiple contracts are available throughout the year. Contracts for lab instructors will be awarded based on theory instructor availability, location, experience and seniority.
