Job Posting: Laboratory Assistant

As a Laboratory Assistant, you are responsible for processing blood samples and other laboratory specimens, entering requisitions and results accurately – all in a timely manner. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness. Testing results are often critical for patients, and you are there to help and make an impact on their lives.

Status and Schedule

• Permanent Part Time
• Day Shifts, Wednesday and Thursday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, Saturday 8:00 am -12:30 pm (Guaranteed 21.5 hours per week)

Location and Start Date

• 649 Scottdale Drive, Guelph, Ontario, N1G 4T7
• Start ASAP

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience and engage with individuals about our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens, using venipuncture techniques with empathy and professionalism
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug, and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and documentation are completed according to SOPs and protocols
• Maintain confidentiality and contribute to quality metrics and compliance

Qualifications

• Secondary School diploma and a Laboratory Assistant training program or Medical Lab Assistance course with phlebotomy training
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health
• Skillful in phlebotomy, able to manage anxious patients calmly
• Ability to prioritize and self-manage in a deadline-oriented environment
• Extremely detail-oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
