As a Health Services Laboratory Assistant (Float), you are responsible for procuring blood samples and other laboratory specimens, entering requisitions, and processing samples for transportation accurately and in a timely manner. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These situations can be stressful for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness. Testing results are often critical for patients, and you are there to help and make an impact on their lives.

This is a permanent full-time position working Monday – Saturday, between 7:00 am – 5:30 pm, in the Hamilton, Burlington, Kitchener, and Niagara areas, at our Laboratory and Health Services Centers (LHSC). Must be flexible to work various hours between Monday – Saturday. Guaranteed 70 hours biweekly.

How YOU will make a difference:
  1. Create an exceptional customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
  2. Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
  3. Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
  4. Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug, and breath alcohol collections
  5. Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for handling suitable and unsuitable samples
  6. Maintain all confidential information securely. Contribute to meeting departmental and corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance, and quality indicators
What YOU bring to the role:
  1. Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
  2. Customer-focused with genuine care for patients’ health
  3. Skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients in a pleasant, calming, and reassuring manner
  4. Ability to prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
  5. Extremely detail-oriented
  6. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, to communicate instructions clearly and understandably to patients
  7. Reliable transportation to travel between LHSCs across the region
