Job summary

City Cruises Canada is seeking a Kitchen Steward for a seasonal contract in Ontario. The role involves cleaning all flatware, assisting in food prep, and supporting general kitchen operations while remaining hospitable to guests and coworkers.

You will learn and apply our RESPECT Service System and contribute to safe, efficient kitchen service. The position includes benefits like complimentary meals, paid training, and crew recognition programs, with some holiday work required.

Qualifications

  • Prior kitchen experience preferred.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality required.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills; bilingual ability is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional hospitality to coworkers and guests as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Operate dish machine; ensure all dishes are cleaned, organized, and stored appropriately.
  • Ensure dishwasher is in proper working order; clean equipment and refill chemicals.
  • Test and document dish machine temperature and sanitizer daily.
  • Stock supplies in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and buffets.
  • Receive and store food and supplies using proper food handling techniques.
  • Assist in routine cleaning of kitchen and equipment; sanitize surfaces and mop floors.
  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies.
  • Prepare food for service as directed by Chef or Kitchen Manager on duty.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of kitchen and service areas; manage waste and cleaning routines.
  • Assist with food deliveries for catering operations.
  • Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time.
  • Maintain uniform and grooming per appearance standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager on duty.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional hospitality to coworkers and guests as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Operate dish machine; ensures all dishes are cleaned, organized, and stored appropriately.
  • Ensure that dishwasher is in proper working order; responsible for routine cleaning of equipment and refilling chemicals as needed.
  • Test and document dish machine temperature and sanitizer daily.
  • Stock supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and buffets or food stations.
  • Receive and store food and supplies using proper food handling techniques including stock rotation and monitoring temperatures of perishable products.
  • Assist in routine cleaning of kitchen including daily cleaning of equipment and implements, sanitizing food preparation surfaces, and mopping floors.
  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies.
  • Prepare food for service (e.g., chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces) as directed by Chef or Kitchen Manager on duty.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of kitchen and service areas; sweep and scrub floors, clean garbage cans with water, sort and remove trash – placing it in designated pickup areas.
  • Assist with food deliveries for catering operations.
  • Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time.
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager on duty.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Previous kitchen experience preferred.
  • Food Handlers Certificate considered an asset.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality is essential.
  • Will be closely supervised; must be able to take direction.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of another language in addition to English is an asset.
  • Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others .
  • Will work for extended periods without sitting.
  • The nature of the work may be strenuous, and the work environment may be warm .
  • Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 40 pounds (18 kilograms).
  • Required to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection).
