Seneca Student Federation is seeking a Kitchen Service Staff at King Campus to support daily food service operations. You will assist with food preparation, maintain sanitation, and help ensure a welcoming kitchen environment for students and staff.

This part-time role (up to 25 hours weekly) includes evenings and events as required. Prior food service or customer service experience is an asset, and candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Training in food safety is preferred.

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Seneca Polytechnic, King Campus.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain) is asset.
  • WHMIS training is asset.
  • Previous food service or hospitality experience is asset.

Job description

Position Summary

The Kitchen Service Staff plays an important role in supporting the daily operations of the Seneca Student Federation (SSF) food service operation at King Campus. This position is responsible for assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, supporting food service operations, and ensuring a safe, welcoming, and efficient kitchen environment for students, staff, and guests.

Working as part of a collaborative team, the Kitchen Service Staff contributes to providing quality food service while maintaining high standards of customer service, food safety, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Kitchen Operations
  • Assist with food preparation, including washing, cutting, portioning, assembling, and packaging food itemsin accordance with recipes and operational procedures.
  • Prepare items and ingredients for daily food production and service.
  • Assist with stocking food stations, refrigerators, and storage areas.
  • Support the preparation and replenishment of grab-and-go items and daily menu offerings.
  • Ensure food is stored, labelled, rotated, and handled according to food safety standards.
  • Monitor food quality and report any concerns to the supervisor.
Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, food preparation, and storage areas.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen smallware, utensils, and machinery using proper sanitation procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations, equipment, counters, floors, and food preparation surfaces throughout each shift.
  • Dispose of waste and recycling in accordance with health and safety requirements.
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties.
Customer Service Support
  • Be the first point of contact for our students and guests.
  • All orders, transactions, and payment processing.
  • Provide friendly, respectful, and professional service to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Answer basic customer inquiries regarding menu items and ingredients.
  • Support catering and special event food preparation and service.
Inventory & Operational Support
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including reconciling and verifying sales reports.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries and verifying products against invoices.
  • Store deliveries using proper food storage procedures.
  • Notify supervisors of low inventory levels or equipment concerns.
  • Help organize kitchen supplies and maintain inventory areas.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all Public Health regulations, Food Premises Regulations, and SSF operational procedures.
  • Adhere to all food handling, sanitation, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and professional appearance at all times, including proper handwashing, wearing clean uniforms and required personal protective equipment (PPE), and following all food handling and sanitation requirements in accordance with Public Health regulations.
  • Report hazards, accidents, equipment malfunctions, or food safety concerns immediately.
  • Support SSF's commitment to creating a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all members of the Seneca community.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Seneca Polytechnic, King Campus.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Previous experience in food service, hospitality, restaurant, cafeteria, or commercial kitchen environments is considered an asset.
  • Customer service experience is considered an asset.
  • Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain) is considered an asset.
  • WHMIS training is considered an asset.

Working Conditions
  • Part-time student position (up to 25 hours per week), including evenings and special events as required.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 25 kg (55 lbs.).
  • Work in environments with varying temperatures, including refrigerators and kitchen areas.
  • Exposure to kitchen equipment, hot surfaces, and cleaning chemicals while following appropriate safety procedures.
