The Salvation Army in Canada Winnipeg Centre of Hope is seeking an Assistant Cook/Kitchen Helper to support the Cook in meal preparation, including dietary meals, in our kitchen.
The role requires high school completion and a six-month cooking course; up to three months of related experience, ability to lift over 50 pounds, and adherence to safety and precautionary measures.

The Assistant Cook/Kitchen Helper assists the Cook in preparing meals.
NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

The successful job applicant will have completed High School (plus required cooking course).
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
The incumbent must have the following experience before hire: Up to three months of prior related experience, including (up to three months of) institutional kitchen experience or equivalent.
The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of standing, manipulating foods and moderate amounts of lifting, cutting, chopping, carrying supplies and walking, a frequent amount of standing, manipulating foods and moderate amounts of lifting, cutting, chopping, carrying supplies and walking.
The incumbent is required to lift more than 50 pounds.
The performance of the job requires frequently preparing foods, reading recipes, adhering to safety procedures and regulations and occasionally ordering supplies.
The incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources: The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.
NOTE: May give direction to meal attendants
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a kitchen in a ministry unit/social services facility.
The incumbent is required to travel up to 30% of the time.
The target hiring range for this position is $16.52 to $16.52 with a maximum of $16.52. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
