Job description

We are recruiting aJunior Surveyorto join our team at the BHP Jansen Potash Mine in Jansen, SK. This position is based on a 14/7 rotation and is camp-based at the Jansen Discovery Lodge.

As a Junior Surveyor, you will be responsible for conducting surveys to determine boundaries, topography, and other physical features on a variety of construction and development projects. You will use a range of surveying instruments and techniques to collect accurate data, prepare reports, and provide essential information to support project planning and design. The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing land surveys to determine property boundaries, topographic features, and construction layouts using both traditional and modern surveying equipment and techniques.
  • Collect field data, measurements, and observations under the guidance of senior surveyors, ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date for project development and design purposes.
  • Help produce detailed survey reports, maps, and CAD drawings, documenting findings and providing clear data for engineers, architects, and project managers. This includes using CAD software to create, update, and modify survey drawings and construction plans.
  • Utilize ArcGIS to analyze geographic and spatial data, create maps, and visualize survey data, supporting land development, environmental analysis, and construction planning.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to ensure that survey data aligns with project requirements and complies with regulatory standards, providing CAD files and ArcGIS maps as needed for project planning.
  • Regularly assist in inspecting, maintaining, and calibrating surveying instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Aid in the preparation of site layouts, grades, and elevations under supervision, using CAD for precise digital representations and ArcGIS for spatial analysis, to guide construction efforts and ensure alignment with project plans.
  • Participate in site visits to verify conditions, assisting senior surveyors in resolving discrepancies between survey data and actual site conditions

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Survey Technician or related field
  • 2-3 years' experience as a Surveyor in construction, civil engineering, or land surveying projects with CAD
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices related to surveying and construction
  • Good ability to analyze and interpret survey data, identify discrepancies, and provide clear recommendations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, data recording, and report generation
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present survey findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Must be willing to travel to multiple project locations
  • Must pass a Criminal Record Check
  • Must pass pre-employment alcohol and drug test including cannabis
