A Little About You
Your cover letter must demonstrate:
- Your interest in working for ISL’s Lethbridge or Calgary office
- Any previous education / work experience you have with civil or electrical engineering design and drafting. Please highlight any experience with traffic operations, design of traffic signal or roadway lighting systems, and/or construction administration.
Your Resume Should Show Us
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology or Engineering Design Technology or related. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
- Some experience in engineering design and drafting supporting civil and/or transportation related projects.
- Working knowledge and or experience using Civil 3D/AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
- A valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license, or equivalent with the ability to travel through Southern Alberta
Bonus Points For
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu/Adobe Acrobat, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM, AGi32, Synchro, and/or SimTraffic
- Any experience with warrant evaluations or analysis for traffic signals, roadway lighting, and electrical design
- Any experience completing traffic signal and/or roadway lighting design including selection and layout of poles, fixtures, cabinets, cable, conduit, and junction boxes
- Understanding of relevant codes, standards and guidelines
- Utility coordination experience
- Experience and/or desire to be involved in construction administration and inspection
- Proposal writing experience
A Little More About The Role
In this role, you will be involved in a variety of urban and rural transportation projects from inception to delivery, which means that some travel within southern Alberta may be required. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to follow instructions and would be responsible for:
- Collaborating on transportation projects locally and across ISL disciplines and offices
- Coordinating with clients, contractors, and third-party stakeholders to facilitate project requirements
- Liaise and communicate effectively with clients and internal team members (Engineers, Project Managers and other technical staff) in the design of traffic signal and roadway lighting systems, and for the preparation of traffic engineering assessments and reviews.
- Developing concepts and designs using Civil 3D, CAD, and other computer-aided drafting programs
- Preparing design calculations, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates
- Ensure that engineering deliverables are compliant with applicable regulations, standards, procedures and uphold to engineering best practices.
- Assisting in the preparation of proposals, reports, studies, and evaluations
- Assisting with the preparation of contract documents and specifications, and administering the tender process
- Providing contract administration and construction inspection support
- Interacting effectively and professionally with co-workers, client representatives, contractors, project stakeholders, and industry peers, and providing excellent service and timely responses
- Work under minimal supervision during design, tender and construction phases of projects
- Other tasks assigned based on individual project requirements
