The role involves learning road construction grade layout, cross sections, and collaboration with engineers on MTO and municipal projects. A strong grounding in GPS and traditional survey methods is required.

Qualifications

  • Graduated with a technology diploma in a related field.
  • C.E.T or Geomatics Technologist certification is preferred.
  • Experience with road construction grade layout and topographical cross sections is expected.
  • Strong technical, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with GPS and conventional survey equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Surveying and construction inspection tasks during the upcoming season.
  • Ensure collected information is accurate and compliant with regulations.
  • Coordinate findings with engineering personnel and project stakeholders.
  • Research previous survey evidence to obtain data for surveys.
  • Junior design and CAD work in the office during off-site times.
  • Learn road construction and design processes.
  • Report to senior field and office staff as required.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in construction inspection.
  • Perform CAD work after field season ends.

As Hatch continues to grow its presence in Northern Ontario, we are seeking a Junior/Intermediate Field Surveyor to play a key role in delivering some of the region's most impactful transportation infrastructure projects. Based in Thunder Bay, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of complex highway and roadway projects while helping shape the future of transportation networks across Northern Ontario.

Responsibilities
  • Surveying and construction inspection tasks during the upcoming construction season;
  • Ensure that collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards;
  • Coordinate findings of the work with engineering personnel, and others concerned with project;
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys;
  • Junior design and CAD work in the office at other times;
  • Focus will be on learning more about road construction and design;
  • Reporting to senior field and office staff as required;
  • Accountable for accurate surveying and attention to detail in construction inspection;
  • Accurate CAD work once the seasonal field work ends.
Qualifications
  • Graduated with a technology diploma in related field;
  • C.E.T or Geomatics Technologist, with minimum of 3+ years surveying experience;
  • Experience with road construction grade layout process and topographical cross sectioning as it relates to highway construction;
  • Knowledge in the various methods of surveying;
  • Strong technical, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Familiar with the latest software for downloading survey data from data collectors;
  • Able to work outside;
  • A team player, good communication skills, and excellent math skills;
  • Experience with GPS and conventional survey equipment and procedure.

Pay range: $56,000 to $64,000
