Hatch in Thunder Bay, Ontario is seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field survey crews supporting transportation and infrastructure projects across Northern Ontario. The successful candidate will plan and execute field surveys, ensure data quality, and coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients.

Requirements include 5+ years of field surveying experience, proficiency with GPS/GNSS and total stations, and a valid driver’s license with willingness to travel to project

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise survey crews on construction, transportation, and land development projects.
  • Conduct topographic, legal, construction layout, as-built, and deformation surveys.
  • Operate GPS/GNSS receivers, robotic total stations, and digital levels.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of field measurements and survey data.
  • Coordinate daily field activities, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Mentor and train junior surveyors and survey assistants.
  • Prepare field notes, reports, and documentation.

To support the growth of our Thunder Bay office, we are seeking an experiencedSurvey Party Chief to lead field survey crews supporting transportation, iprojects across Northern Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing field surveys, ensuring data quality, maintaining safety standards, and coordinating with project managers, engineers, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and supervise survey crews on construction, transportation, and land development projects.
  • Conduct and oversee topographic, legal, construction layout, as-built, and deformation surveys.
  • Operate survey equipment including GPS/GNSS receivers, robotic total stations, and digital levels.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of field measurements and survey data.
  • Coordinate daily field activities, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Maintain survey equipment and perform routine calibration checks.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients regarding survey requirements.
  • Prepare field notes, reports, and documentation.
  • Mentor and train junior surveyors and survey assistants.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Geomatics, Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

  • Experience working in remote and challenging field environments.

Pay range: $65,000 to $94,000
