Job summary

Hatch Ltd. in Thunder Bay, Ontario, seeks a Project Manager/Senior Highway Engineer to lead planning, design and delivery of major highway projects across Northwestern Ontario. You will mentor teams and coordinate with MTO, municipalities and clients to ensure on-time results.

The requirements include a Civil Engineering degree, P.Eng. in Ontario, and 15 years of highway design/traffic engineering experience with strong leadership and contract administration skills.

Qualifications

  • Civil engineering degree is required.
  • P.Eng. licensure in Ontario required.
  • 15 years of highway design and traffic engineering experience.
  • Experience with MTO projects or familiarity with RAQS qualifications is a strong asset.
  • Strong communication and project leadership skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, organizes and controls the activities of all project staff.
  • Maintains communications with MTO to ensure delivery of project requirements per contract.
  • Provide guidance to staff, client liaison, and technical reviews; prepare specifications and reports.
  • Assist in negotiating extra work and make minor design changes.
  • Review design packages for contract compliance; ensure calculations align with contract.
  • Mentor staff and project teams.

As Hatch continues to grow its presence in Northern Ontario, we are seeking an experienced Project Manager/Senior Highway Engineerto play a key role in delivering some of the region's most impactful transportation infrastructure projects. Based in Thunder Bay, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of complex highway and roadway projects while helping shape the future of transportation networks across Northern Ontario.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates, organizes and controls the activities of all project staff;
  • Establishes and maintains communications withMTOto ensure delivery of project requirements as per contractual agreements;
  • Provide guidance of technical staff, client liaison, and technical reviews, preparation of project specifications and technical reports and solving complex engineering problems;
  • Assists in negotiating extra work and makes minor design changes;
  • Reviews contract design package to ensure calculations agree with contract;
  • Foster a spirit of enthusiasm and client focus;
  • Mentor staff and project teams.
Qualifications
  • Must have a Civil Engineering university degree or equivalent;
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario;
  • As a minimum, must have15 years’ experience with knowledge of current MTO standards pertaining to highway design and traffic engineering;
  • Must have experience directly related to MTO projects (relevant experience to meet MTO RAQS qualifications for any of Highway Engineering functional category would be a strong asset);
  • Must have working relationship with the MTO;
  • Sound knowledge of highway engineering and construction principles, methods and practices;
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices;
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, design, and contract administration;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential;
  • Able to multi-task and meet various project deadlines.

Pay range: $115,000 - $145,000
