Design Engineer role blends visual design and engineering expertise to build high‑impact features for Ashby’s talent‑acquisition platform. Design Engineers solve complex product problems, contribute to our design system, and ship code to millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to define UI, UX, and data‑model requirements.
• Redesign and implement mobile web and desktop interfaces using the design system.
• Create flexible, composable components that enable consistent, beautiful interfaces across the product.
• Consult on bespoke design work and provide guidance on scannability, information hierarchy, and visual polish.
• Iterate quickly based on user and stakeholder feedback, prioritizing shipping over perfection.

Qualifications & Experience

• Strong visual design sense with a portfolio that demonstrates UI/UX and coding skills.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and CSS; backend experience is a plus.
• 2+ years of professional experience as a designer or engineer (junior roles up to 2 years).
• Experience shipping code to a user base, including mobile or web applications.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and communicate with cross‑functional teams.

Levels & Expectations

• Junior Design Engineer: ≤2 years of industry experience; portfolio of design and coding projects.
• Design Engineer (Mid/Senior): 2+ continuous years of experience; proven ability to ship code to hundreds of users.
• Staff Design Engineer: Established track record with design systems or complex product features; significant impact on user experience.

Technology Stack

TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node.js, Postgres, Redis, CSS. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and productivity tooling is advantageous.
