Job summary

Ashby is seeking an Engineering Manager who can grow and lead a team of high-performing engineers, build a scalable culture, and execute large, loosely defined projects with minimal oversight.

You will coach engineers, help them tackle big, cross-functional work, and drive improvements in developer experience and product delivery. This role emphasizes leadership, ownership, and proactive collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide feedback on product and technical specifications to help engineers cut scope or improve quality, influencing decisions while coaching individual contributors.
• Grow engineers so they can take on large, loosely defined projects and deliver them with little intervention.
• Participate in system debugging, shipping small bug fixes, and improving developer experience to maintain up‑to‑date technical ownership.
• Lead department‑wide initiatives such as improving pull‑request review processes, designing interview frameworks, and optimizing data generation for demo accounts.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering background with hands‑on coding expertise and a passion for continuous learning.
• Proven experience managing and scaling a team of 3–5 engineers, hiring additional team members, and fostering an environment of ownership and autonomy.
• Excellent coaching and communication skills, able to influence without direct authority.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, product‑driven environment with minimal process interference.
• Ability to spearhead cross‑functional initiatives and drive impactful changes across teams.

Compensation Range: CA$190,000 – CA$280,000
