Junior Compliance Analyst

Based in our Halifax office, this position reports to the VP, Compliance and will be responsible for providing support across a variety of functions, including compliance validation testing, regulation, investigations, monitoring & surveillance, and customer due diligence. Day-to-day supervision will be provided locally by the AVP, Anti-Money Laundering Officer (AMLCO).

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Aiding senior members of the Compliance team with their queries.
  • Assisting with requests from law enforcement and regulatory authorities.
  • Assessing client onboarding practices and documentation.
  • Reviewing data analytics, ensuring monitoring and surveillance requirements and quality assurance reviews are undertaken by Compliance.
  • Communicating compliance and risk management standards to internal clients.
  • Assisting with compliance validation testing and spot checks as assigned and communicating identified areas of concern by crafting reports to business partners, when appropriate.
  • Analyzing Compliance and/or Financial Crime processes and procedures, identifying failings, and making recommendations for remediation to internal and external departments.
  • Identifying data quality issues and making recommendations on where to improve or how to resolve them.
  • Evaluating and escalating risks and/or failure of standards to management promptly and appropriately.
  • Supporting regulatory projects, including gap analysis between policies and practices, tracking regulatory findings, and ad hoc requests from the regulator.
  • Contributing in the performance and monitoring of testing reviews of Compliance, Financial Crime, and the Business, in line with Group requirements.
Your qualifications and skills include:
  • Completion of a post-secondary education, preferably in business or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of Compliance or Financial Crime experience, with familiarity regarding regulations and standards.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Strong and reliable recordkeeping, reporting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to liase with and operate effectively in a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and work against tight deadlines.
  • High ethical standards with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with absolute discretion.
