Job summary

THL Gourmet Foods Inc. is seeking a Junior Accountant I to join the Finance team in Burnaby, BC. The candidate will support the full accounts payable process and data input in a fast-paced wholesale environment.

The role requires strong Excel skills, familiarity with ERP systems (D365 F&O preferred), and meticulous attention to detail. You will report to the Finance/Accounting Manager and contribute to month-end close and financial accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic GAAP principles and financial concepts.
  • Intermediate Excel skills: VLOOKUP, PivotTables; proficiency with Office suite.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems; experience with D365 F&O is an asset.
  • Excellent English communication, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Process transactions in the accounting system per policies (AP, prepaids, inventory, assets, revenue).
  • Interact with operations to gather information and resolve issues.
  • Process invoices and related documents; forward for review and approval.
  • Enter transactions into D365 F&O; run weekly cheque runs and transfers.
  • Maintain organized financial records; perform bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end closing and ad-hoc tasks as needed.

Job description

THL Gourmet Foods Inc. is one of Canada’s leading wholesale distributors of Asian food products, sourcing quality products from the Pacific Rim and other regions around the world. We proudly serve retailers, restaurants, and food service operators across Canada through our extensive product selection, reliable distribution network, and commitment to exceptional customer service. We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Junior Accountant I to join our Finance team.

Position Summary:

The Junior Accountant reports to the Finance/Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will be an integral part of the department, support the full accounts payable process and data input.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process transactions in the company’s accounting system in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures (prepaid expenditures, inventory, fixed assets, Accounts Payable and deferred revenue, etc.).
  • Interact with operational personnel to answer questions and accumulate information.
  • Print and organize all Ontario Division (ONT DIV) invoices and related documents; forward PO-related invoices to merchants for review and approval.
  • Review invoices and T/T request forms for accuracy and completeness, and enter transactions into the company’s Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) system.
  • Process weekly cheque runs and T/T request forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting records and filing systems.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies as required.
  • Assist with month-end closing activities, including account reconciliation and other related accounting tasks.
  • Provide support to the management team with ad-hoc accounting and administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Knowledge of basic GAAP principles, accounting practices, and financial concepts.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and their application in supporting business operations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, PivotTables, and other data-mapping functions; proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications is also required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) is considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while effectively managing competing and changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner and approach when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong attention to accuracy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive company information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Assets/ Nice-to-Haves:
  • Preferably enrolled in the CPA program
Working Hours:
  • This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Regular working hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., including a 30-minute unpaid meal break
  • Expected Hourly Wage: $22.83-$30.82
