About Us
The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that currently owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We take pride in providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment that caters to the complex needs of our senior residents and families. Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

The Role
The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join our Financial Services team. This role is ideal for an individual with a solid foundation in full-cycle accounting who is looking to grow their skills in a mission-driven, collaborative environment. The Junior Accountant contributes to the accuracy and integrity of our financial records by supporting key accounting functions and ensuring timely month-end close activities. The successful candidate will be organized and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in a deadline-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries and account analysis to support the month-end close process
- Perform bank and balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Support cash management activities, including preparing deposits and processing wire transfers
- Administer the corporate credit card program, including reconciliation and expense tracking
- Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements and monthly variance analysis
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of revenues and expenses in compliance with accounting policies
- Provide support during audits and assist with documentation requests as needed
- Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and procedures

Who We're Looking For
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- 1–3 years of experience in full-cycle accounting
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, etc.)
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
