Job summary

ENMAX Corporation is seeking a Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) for a 18-month limited term assignment in Calgary, AB. You will perform electrical construction, maintenance, repair and testing on energized and de-energized lines under supervision, including live-line work up to 25kV.

Requirements include a PLT qualification with interprovincial equivalency, a valid Alberta driver’s license, and a strong safety record.

Qualifications

• Must meet ENMAX qualifications under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act.
• Must hold a valid Province of Alberta driver’s license; upgrade to Class 1 as required.
• Qualified as Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) and eligible for interprovincial equivalency.
• Experience with live-line work up to 25 kV and underground splicing/terminating.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the Province of Alberta, ENMAX Corporation, A.E.U.C. (Alberta Electrical Utility Code) and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations
• Ensure proper care and use of vehicles, equipment, and work sites
• Familiar with confined and restricted space work requirements
• As a Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) you will under direct supervision, perform activities related to the electrical construction, maintenance, repair or testing on energized and de-energized power lines, as required up to system voltage limits
• Have skills in live line technique using rubber gloves on voltages up to, and including 25kv
• Perform underground splicing, terminating and cable pulling
• Recognize, assess and control potentially hazardous situations in the work environment
• Function effectively as an integral part of a work group
• Work safely in all conditions and possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

• Must meet ENMAX Corporation’s requirements as to qualifications and/or qualify under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act with respect to the related electrical trade
• Must have a proven safety record and thorough knowledge of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Practices (SWPs)
• Must have a valid Province of Alberta driver’s license, upgrade as required
• Qualified as Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) and be willing and able to obtain an interprovincial equivalency
• General knowledge of the principals involved in the construction and maintenance of underground cable installations
• Experience in rubber glove live line work (Preference will be given to applicants with 25kv rubber glove experience as well as underground splicing and terminating)
• Knowledge of the Electrical and Communications Utility Systems (E.C.U.C.- Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations as they pertain to the trade
• Knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices
• Willing to assist and train apprentices
• Ensures proper care and use of vehicles, equipment, and the worksite under your direction
• Work comfortably in underground confined space environments and adverse climate conditions
• Able to communicate effectively to address customer concerns in a professional manner
• Has had exposure to high stress situations and the ability to manage stress effectively
• Possess a valid Provincial Class 5 driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Province of Alberta Class 1 driver’s license is essential
• Working knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office
• Must be willing to upgrade qualifications as required
• Must be legal to work in Canada and requires the successful completion of a criminal background check and a pre-employment medical screen (including drug and alcohol testing)
• Two pieces of valid Government issued ID will be required
• Two professional references will be requested
• Education requirements for this position will be verified by a third party
• Applicants will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract (those with more than 6 demerits will not be considered) and must be able to meet ENMAX’s insurance requirements

• $68.75 per hour (2026 IBEW Collective Agreement rate)

Shift

• Regular Days: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. Shift may be changed to meet operational needs.
