Job summary

ENMAX Power Corporation in Calgary, AB is hiring for an IBEW Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) on a limited-term 18-month contract. The role supports electrical construction, maintenance, repair or testing on energized and de-energized power lines, with supervision and emphasis on safety and code compliance.

Responsibilities include live-line work, underground splicing, and ensuring safe operations and accurate reporting.

Qualifications

• Must meet ENMAX Corporation’s requirements as to qualifications and/or must be qualified under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act with respect to the related electrical trade.
• Must have a proven safety record and thorough knowledge of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Practices (SWPs).
• Must have a valid Province of Alberta driver’s license, upgrade as required.
• Qualified as Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) and be willing and able to obtain an interprovincial equivalency.

• Adhere to the Province of Alberta, ENMAX Corporation, A.E.U.C. (Alberta Electrical Utility Code) and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations
• Ensure proper care and use of vehicles, equipment, and work sites
• Familiar with confined and restricted space work requirements
• Under direct supervision, perform activities related to electrical construction, maintenance, repair or testing on energized and de-energized power lines
• Have skills in live line technique using rubber gloves on voltages up to 25kV
• Perform underground splicing, terminating and cable pulling
• Recognize, assess and control potentially hazardous situations in the work environment
• Function effectively as an integral part of a work group
• Work safely in all conditions and possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices
• Other duties as assigned

• Perform underground splicing, terminating and cable pulling
• Recognize, assess and control potentially hazardous situations in the work environment

• Work safely in all conditions and possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices

Qualifications & Experience:

• Must meet ENMAX Corporation’s requirements as to qualifications and/or must be qualified under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act with respect to the related electrical trade

• Must have a proven safety record and thorough knowledge of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Practices (SWPs)
• Must have a valid Province of Alberta driver’s license, upgrade as required
• Qualified as Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) and be willing and able to obtain an interprovincial equivalency
• General knowledge of the principals involved in the construction and maintenance of underground cable installations
• Experience in rubber glove live line work (Preference will be given to applicants with 25kv rubber glove experience as well as underground splicing and terminating)
• Knowledge of the Electrical and Communications Utility Systems (E.C.U.C.- Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations as they pertain to the trade
• Knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices
• Willing to assist and train apprentices
• Ensures proper care and use of vehicles, equipment, and the worksite under your direction
• Work comfortably in underground confined space environments and adverse climate conditions
• Able to communicate effectively to address customer concerns in a professional manner
• Has had exposure to high stress situations and the ability to manage stress effectively
• Possess a valid Provincial Class 5 driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Province of Alberta Class 1 driver’s license is essential
• Working knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office
• Must be willing to upgrade qualifications as required

Salary: $68.75 per hour (2026 IBEW Collective Agreement rate)

Location: South Service Centreat 8820 – 52 Street SE, Calgary, AB

Shift: Regular Days: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. Shift may be changed to meet operational needs.
