Job summary

Bowerman's in Canada is seeking a skilled cabinetmaker for a permanent role in a custom/millwork shop. You will operate woodworking machinery, interpret plans, and prepare specs for built-in cabinetry and furniture.

The position requires attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to train apprentices. You will work in a non-smoking shop that focuses on quality millwork, kitchen cabinets, and built-in units.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of cabinetmaking experience.
• Trade certificate or diploma in a related field.
• Certification as a cabinetmaker or joiner is preferred, with Red Seal recognized.

Responsibilities

• Operate woodworking machines to cut, shape and form parts.
• Prepare specifications for custom-made cabinets to maximize storage.
• Shape surfaces or edges with hand tools and planes.
• Instruct apprentices and mentor junior staff.
• Study plans and drawings to guide fabrication.
• Use CAD/CAM software for design or layout tasks.
• Fit joints and assemble components into finished units.
• Sand surfaces, apply veneer, stain or polish; finish with laminates.

Tasks

• Operate woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, mortisers and shapers, to cut, shape and form parts and components
• Prepare specifications of custom-made cabinets that maximize storage
• Shape surfaces or edges of wood workpieces, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
• Instruct apprentices
• Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be made
• Operate CADD and other computer software systems
• Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit and reinforce joints
• Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain or polish to finished products; prepare and apply laminated plastics
• Apply varnish, veneer, stain or polish to finished products
• Maintain clean and safe work environment
