Job summary

MDE - Menuisierie de l'Estrie is seeking skilled cabinet makers to work on custom cabinetry in a on-site shop in Montreal. The role involves reading blueprints, operating woodworking machines, and finishing surfaces with veneers, stains, and polish.

The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of cabinetry experience, strong attention to detail, and ability to work as part of a team in a busy custom shop environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of cabinetry experience preferred.
• Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
• Ability to read plans and follow specifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate woodworking machines (saws, jointers, mortisers, shapers) to cut and shape parts.
• Prepare specifications for custom-made cabinets to maximize storage.
• Shape surfaces and edges with hand tools (planes, chisels, files).
• Study plans and drawings to determine work requirements.
• Operate CAD and other computer software systems to assist production.
• Assemble subassemblies and reinforce joints for complete units.

RESPONSIBILITIES

TASKS

• Operate woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, mortisers and shapers, to cut, shape and form parts and components
• Prepare specifications of custom-made cabinets that maximize storage
• Shape surfaces or edges of wood workpieces, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
• Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be made
• Operate CADD and other computer software systems
• Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit and reinforce joints
• Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain or polish to finished products; prepare and apply laminated plastics
• Apply varnish, veneer, stain or polish to finished products
• Read blueprints or other instructions to determine work requirements
• Assist in developing inventories
