Job summary

BGIS in Thunder Bay and Sudbury, ON seeks a Journeyperson Plumber with 5+ years of experience and a valid provincial license to operate facility systems and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.

Responsibilities include piping layout, pipe sizing, blueprint interpretation, installation and repair of valves and fixtures, leak testing, regular inspections, safety compliance, and providing reliable service to keep client operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

• College Diploma/Certification required.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a licensed Plumber.
• Strong ability to adhere to processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
• Troubleshooting and resolution skills.
• Current knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards; ability to apply related codes.
• Environmental, health and safety mindset; work in a safe manner.
• Strong client-service orientation with a high sense of urgency.
• Effective communication for data relay, exchange, feedback and clarification.
• Mentoring skills to support lower level technicians.
• Willing to work shifts, be on-call/standby and emergency call-outs.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment.
• Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements.
• Must hold a valid Journeyman plumbing license.

Responsibilities

• Determines piping system requirements and pipe sizing.
• Measures, cuts, threads and bends pipes to required shape and size.
• Interprets blueprints, drawings and specifications to map layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems in residential and commercial buildings.
• Cuts opening in walls or floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.
• Installs, replaces and repairs valves, pump and all others of piping system, fixtures and equipment.
• Tests pipes for leaking and other problems.
• Performs work in accordance to established processes and practices.
• Complies with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
• Responds to routine and on-demand service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance activities at assigned facility.
• Performs regular facility, facility plumbing systems monitoring and inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime and safety objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity of assigned facility is maintained.
• Follows health and safety standards and complies with building codes.
• Assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program. Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentations are maintained.
• Maintains accurate inventory of all assigned tools/equipment and arranges for repair and replacement where required.
• Provides observations about facility, facility plumbing conditions and deficiencies and provides recommendations for enhancement and repair.
• Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.
• Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements.
• Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required
• Submits all expenditures on a timely basis.
