Job description

Blackstone is seeking a skilled Journeyman Millwright to join our team for a 2-3 month period. As a Millwright with Blackstone, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, where your skills and expertise will be valued. The successful Journeyman Millwright will be joining our Field Services team for work at our customers' sites for the duration of the project, working 40 hours per week in the Edmonton area. The successful candidate will be expected to join the Blackstone team and align with Blackstone’s culture of excellence, safety, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
  2. Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues.
  3. Disassemble and reassemble machinery for repair or maintenance.
  4. Conduct preventative maintenance to prevent breakdowns.
  5. Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
  6. Maintain an organized and safe workspace while completing all required documentation for assigned tasks.
  7. Adhere to and promote a safe work environment for yourself and co-workers.
  8. Work within a team, and on occasion on your own depending on the task.
  9. Be flexible to the urgent nature of our business; you may be asked periodically to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
  10. Read diagrams and schematic drawings and service manuals to determine work procedures.

Qualifications

  1. Experience with equipment overhauls.
  2. Thorough knowledge of compressors – reciprocating and centrifugal, gearboxes, pumps, fans, and blowers.
  3. Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
  4. Strong hoisting & rigging skills.
  5. Proficient with aligning equipment (laser alignment tool) and measuring tools.
  6. Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals.
  7. Troubleshoot failures & malfunctioning equipment.
  8. Perform predictive and operational procedures.
  9. Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  10. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  11. Strong attention to detail and precision.
  12. Safety-conscious mindset.
  13. Be motivated, well organized, punctual, honest, and willing to learn.
  14. Have strong customer service and communication skills.
  15. Be flexible with time scheduling to meet customer needs; overtime will be required when needed.
  16. Comply with all company policies, safety, quality, and performance standards.

Education and Certifications

  1. Completion of a recognized Millwright apprenticeship program.
  2. Successful completion of our pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  3. Have a valid class 5 driver’s license.
  4. H2S, Fall Arrest, Confined Space, and CSO safety tickets.
  5. O/H Crane, Rigging Safety, Fork Lift, Zoom Boom, First Aid, and SCBA courses are not mandatory but are assets.
