Ketek Group Inc. is seeking a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Service Technician to guide apprentices while performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure equipment operates at peak performance.

Based in Western and Northern Canada, Ketek serves oil & gas, mining, construction and municipal sectors. The role combines field and shop work, with safety as a priority and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Service Technician certificate with at least 1 year of experience.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Ability to read, evaluate drawings and product specs, and perform math calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, schedule and prioritize maintenance work orders and apprentices.
  • Rebuild and repair diesel/gasoline, pneumatic, and electric powered equipment.
  • Service, diagnose, troubleshoot, dismantle and replace unit assemblies or parts.
  • Communicate with supervisors on procedures, standards and hazards.
  • Follow manufacturer specs and safety standards.

POSITION BACKGROUND:

The Journeyman Mechanic works to guide and mentor apprentices. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues and repair to ensure equipment is performing optimally.

CORE DUTIES:
  • Effectively manage, schedule and prioritize maintenance work orders and apprentices
  • Rebuild and make repairs to diesel/gasoline, pneumatic, and electric powered equipment
  • Plan, inspect, service, maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, dismantle, and replace unit assemblies or parts
  • Communicate with supervisors and other divisions on methods, procedures, standards, and hazards
  • Exercise judgment in the selection of materials and tools as well as methods so that the job is performed in accordance with accepted manufacturers specifications and safety standards
  • Troubleshoot, plan, and perform work requiring a strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, low voltage direct current, electronic and pneumatic principles, trade techniques, properties of various materials, and operating and application principles of equipment
  • Follow specifications on complex equipment diagrams, parts drawings and catalogues
  • Examine and reason, through cause analysis, for failure or improper operation of engines, pumps, running gear, parts, and equipment
  • Repair and rebuild engines, hydraulic and electric systems of diesel/gasoline, electric, propane and pneumatic powered equipment
  • Repair and rebuild transmissions, traction motors, and differentials
  • Use precision testing equipment to determine source and cause of fault and to perform close tolerance adjustment
  • Test and operate repaired equipment as required
  • Make field repairs as required to bring equipment back on-line
  • Keep tools and equipment in clean and orderly condition
  • Complete required paperwork
  • Successfully complete safety training as required on an ongoing basis
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ensure all Ketek work procedures, policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are followed
  • Be considerate of the needs of our community and the environment
  • Perform other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Required
  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Service Technician certificate with minimum one- year experience
  • Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken)
  • Able to demonstrate good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Easily read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications and drawings, and perform normal math calculations
  • Familiar and comfortable with various saws, grinders and other hand tools
  • Familiar and comfortable with manufacturing and welding machinery
  • Able to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high level prioritization skills
  • Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail
  • Able to respond to field calls as required
  • Valid Class 5 and a Clean Drivers Abstract
Preferred
  • Loader experience
  • Fall Protection experience
  • AWP experience
  • Overhead Crane experience
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, stoop, climb, lift, balance, kneel and use of hands/fingers to operate tools, machinery and materials
  • Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) may be required
  • Use of mechanical aids: overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, and dolly may be required
  • Regular exposure to loud noises and metal particulates - hearing and respiratory protection is provided when needed
Work Environment
  • Field (30%) and shop environment (70%)
  • May be required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours
  • May be required to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat
