Job summary

Saplings Outdoor Program in Vancouver is seeking part-time educators for after-school care. Work outdoors with children aged 5–12, in a nature-based setting, 2:45–5pm daily. Training, ongoing development, and collaborative teamwork are provided to support reflective practice and safe, engaging experiences.

Ideal candidates will be certified in ECE/ECEA, hold CPR Level B, and be comfortable outdoors in all weather. Criminal checks and eligibility proof are required.

Qualifications

  • ECE/ECEA certification required or equivalent.
  • Experience with school-aged children.
  • First Aid with CPR Level B and AED or willingness to obtain before start.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate engaging, play-based learning outdoors.
  • Supervise children indoors and outdoors with active engagement.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments in outdoor environments.
  • Document children's learning through observations and narration.
  • Maintain licensing compliance and professional standards.
  • Build respectful relationships with families.

Saplings Outdoor Program - Vancouver.

Our After School Care Program serves children aged 5-12 years. Our programs regularly access nearby green spaces and parks, and educators must feel confident and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

At Saplings, we believe childhood should be rooted in connection to nature, meaningful relationships, and play-based learning. We are a learning organization that invests in our educators through ongoing training, professional development, and reflective practice.

  • Part-Time position shifts occurring daily from 2:45-5pm only.
  • Shift pattern to be confirmed.
  • Start date: ongoing for the 2026/2027 school year.
  • Mandatory paid training/onboarding.
Wage:
  • Plus $6 per hour ECE Wage Enhancement (if applicable).
Qualifications:
  • Valid ECE, ECEA or Responsible certification.
  • Experience working with school aged children.
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid with CPR Level B and AED, or willingness to obtain prior to start.
  • Comfortable working outdoors year-round.
  • Strong understanding of child development and play-based pedagogy.
All successful candidates will be required to:
  • Complete appropriate Criminal Record Checks.
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in Canada.
