Job summary

Elk Valley Resources in British Columbia is offering a co-op internship in Civil/Projects or Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Materials engineering. You will work on project development, safety programs, and collaborate with engineering, operations and consultants.

The role supports the Project Management team in evaluating proposals, progressing designs, creating framework documents, supporting RFPs, scheduling and cost control.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate engineering degree with a passion for project-based work.
• Able to communicate clearly and work with diverse teams in a dynamic industrial setting.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; multitask effectively.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations and consultants on process development and QA initiatives.
• Support the Project Management team in evaluating vendor proposals and scheduling.
• Prepare environmental materials and contribute to project documentation and cost control.
• Brainstorm innovative ideas to improve business processes.

In this role, you will:

• Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
• Seeking ways to improve our process by collaborating with the engineering team, operations and consultants on new process development, quality assurance initiatives, day-to-day troubleshooting, and evaluation test work
• Support the Project Management team in evaluating vendor proposals, progressing designs, completing the project framework documents, support RFP's, scheduling, cost control, construction execution and commissioning
• Participate in multi-disciplinary professional teams, support activity projects, prepare and deliver environmental awareness materials to employees
• Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business

Requirements:

• Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Civil or Projects Engineering or Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Materials Engineering with a passion for project based work
• Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and Solidworks would be advantageous
