Job summary

Elk Valley Resources (EVR), part of the Glencore Group, is seeking engineering-focused co-op students for a 8- or 12-month placement in the Elk Valley, BC. The role emphasizes hands-on maintenance project coordination in a heavy industry setting with mentors from engineering and operations teams.

You will gain exposure to design tools (AutoCAD/SolidWorks), safety programs, and real-world commissioning and reliability tasks within a mining operation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
• Able to work in a dynamic industrial environment with a range of personnel.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to convey complex ideas.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies.
• Assist in the coordination of maintenance projects in a processing plant, water treatment facility or with heavy duty mining equipment.
• Organize, schedule and monitor the status of maintenance projects.
• Monitor project budgets and identify inefficiencies and offer cost effective solutions.
• Support operations and work with trades to troubleshoot equipment failure and develop repair scopes of work.
• Collaborate with engineering team to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site (upgrades to equipment or facilities).
• Support reliability maintenance initiatives including failure and root cause analysis.
• Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve business processes.

• Collaborate with engineering team to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site such as upgrades to equipment or building facilities
• Support reliability maintenance initiatives including failure and root cause analysis
• Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business

Requirements:

• Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
• A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra-provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions
• Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and Solidworks would be advantageous
