Job summary

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking an undergraduate engineering student for a project-based co-op in the Elk Valley, BC. The role focuses on supporting project management, process improvement, and environmental awareness initiatives in collaboration with engineering, operations and consultants.

Start date January 2027, duration 8 or 12 months, with opportunities for mentorship, hands-on mining experience, and travel expense assistance for co-op fees.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work in a collaborative environment.
• Interest in project-based work within mining and process improvement contexts.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies.
• Collaborate with the engineering team, operations and consultants on process development and QA initiatives.
• Assist the Project Management team in evaluating vendor proposals and scheduling tasks.
• Support multidisciplinary teams and prepare environmental awareness materials for employees.
• Contribute ideas to improve business processes and project execution.

• Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
• Seeking ways to improve our process by collaborating with the engineering team, operations and consultants on new process development, quality assurance initiatives, day-to-day troubleshooting, and evaluation test work
• Support the Project Management team in evaluating vendor proposals, progressing designs, completing the project framework documents, support RFP's, scheduling, cost control, construction execution and commissioning
• Participate in multi-disciplinary professional teams, support activity projects, prepare and deliver environmental awareness materials to employees
• Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
• Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Civil or Projects Engineering or Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Materials Engineering with a passion for project based work
• Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and Solidworks would be advantageous
• Receive financial assistance for travel expenses and co-op fees
• Acquire hands-on experience applying academic knowledge to real-world mining operations, fostering the development of technical skills
• Benefit from mentorship and guidance offered by seasoned specialists in their respective fields
