Job summary

Elk Valley Resources (EVR), part of the Glencore Group in Canada, is seeking an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student to join our on-site maintenance and engineering team in the Elk Valley, BC. Start date January 2027, duration of 8 or 12 months, offering hands-on experience in a heavy industrial setting.

The position provides exposure to project coordination, safety programs, and collaboration with engineers and trades across the Elk Valley operations.

Qualifications

  • Working toward an Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra-provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and Solidworks would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Assist in the coordination of maintenance projects in a processing plant, water treatment facility or in mobile maintenance with heavy duty mining equipment
  • Organize, schedule and monitor the status of maintenance projects
  • Monitor project budgets and identify inefficiencies and offer cost effective solutions
  • Support operations and work with skilled trades to troubleshoot equipment failure and develop repair scopes of work
  • Collaborate with engineering team to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site such as upgrades to equipment or building facilities
  • Support reliability maintenance initiatives including failure and root cause analysis
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business

In This Role, You Will
