Job summary

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) in British Columbia is offering a co-op opportunity for undergraduate students in mechanical engineering starting January 2027. The role supports maintenance projects across processing plants and mining equipment, with exposure to safety programs and budgeting.

You will work with engineering and trades, organize schedules, monitor budgets, and contribute to design upgrades on site.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license without learner restrictions.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic industrial setting.
• Proficient in MS Office; knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

In this role, you will:

• Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
• Assist in the coordination of maintenance projects in a processing plant, water treatment facility or in mobile maintenance with heavy duty mining equipment
• Organize, schedule and monitor the status of maintenance projects
• Monitor project budgets and identify inefficiencies and offer cost effective solutions
• Support operations and work with skilled trades to troubleshoot equipment failure and develop repair scopes of work
• Collaborate with engineering team to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site such as upgrades to equipment or building facilities
• Support reliability maintenance initiatives including failure and root cause analysis
• Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business

Requirements:

• Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
• A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra-provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions
• Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and Solidworks would be advantageous

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.
