Job summary

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking a student intern in finance or engineering to assist with planning, analysis and economic modeling in a dynamic mining setting. You will contribute to Life of Asset plans, costing models and cross‑functional projects with safety at the forefront.

The role offers hands-on experience applying academic knowledge to real-world mining operations, mentorship from seasoned professionals, and a path to future opportunities upon graduation.

Qualifications

  • Working towards an Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Finance or Engineering.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License without learner's restrictions.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic industrial environment with diverse personnel.
  • Motivated self-starters able to manage several projects.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable with financial analysis.
  • Strong problem solving and decision‑making abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI and advanced data analysis is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies.
  • Work with groups across the business building economic models for decisions.
  • Support Business Planning with LoA reviews highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Assist with preparing annual consolidated LoA plans and maintain LoA costing model integrity.
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve business methods.

In this role, you will:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Work with various groups and teams across the business building economic models that support business decisions
  • Support the Business Planning team with economic reviews and analysis of the Life of Asset (LoA) Plans highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Assist with preparing annual consolidated LoA plans and manage the integrity of the LoA costing model
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Requirements:
  • Working towards an Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Finance or Engineering (Mining, Civil, Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering)
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra-provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
  • Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  • Comfortable with financial analysis
  • Strong problem solving, and decision‑making abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI and advanced data analysis would be an asset

Salary: $4,117 - $6,167 CAD/month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co‑op experiences completed.
