Job summary

A Canadian steelmaking company based in Sparwood is seeking a Mechanical Engineering co-op student. You will participate in health and safety programs, assist in maintenance project coordination, monitor budgets, and support engineering teams. Job details
  • Start date: May 2026
  • Duration: 8 or 12 months
In this role, you will:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Assist in coordination of maintenance projects in a processing plant, water treatment facility or mobile maintenance; responsible for organizing, scheduling and monitoring the status of maintenance projects
  • Monitor project budgets and identify inefficiencies and offer cost‑effective solutions
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site such as upgrades to equipment or building facilities
  • Support reliability maintenance initiatives including failure and root cause analysis
  • Coordinate the plan and schedule for maintenance shutdown work
  • Support operations and work with skilled trades to troubleshoot equipment failure and develop repair scopes of work
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Requirements:
  • Working toward an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License or extra‑provincial equivalent, without learner’s restrictions
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
  • Motivated self‑starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); a solid understanding of AutoCAD and SolidWorks would be advantageous
