Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking an IT Applications Engineer for our Windsor, Ontario facility to support end‑user transactions in the ERP system and other business applications. The role focuses on developing features, testing, and collaborating with users to improve processes and data migration while providing second‑tier support.

Required are MES/IT experience (1–3 years), programming basics, and strong communication. Travel up to 30% to other facilities is expected as needed.

Job description

Location: Windsor, ON

Cleveland-Cliffs Tooling and Stamping has an immediate opportunity for an IT Applications Engineer in our Windsor, Ontario facility. The IT Application Engineer will serve as the first level of support for all departments for end user transactions in the ERP system in addition to supporting other business applications. The ideal candidate will have prior ERP experience, be self‑motivated and thrive in a fast‑paced work environment. Summary of Responsibilities
  • Develop new features and enhancements to meet the business needs of the corporation. This includes developing solutions based on the design laid out in the proposal; conducting system tests; working with the subject matter experts and users to test the application; documenting the deployment process; training of the administrators on new functionality.
  • Research new concepts as required to develop innovative solutions to business problems.
  • Attend meetings with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to collect information to clarify project specifications, make recommendations and reach agreement in defining system needs.
  • Provide second‑tier support to integrated software and other existing applications.
  • Various special projects and ad hoc requests assigned. Provide suggestions to streamline the extraction of data and data migration processes to maintain or improve upon expected results.
  • Understand and support data standards and processes to support master data migration.
  • Supports application configuration and security setup as needed.
  • Defines test scenarios based on data requirements.
  • Creates test scripts to prove each scenario through system and user acceptance testing supports.
  • 20 to 30 percent required travelling to other CCTS facilities.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: A degree or coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (co‑op/internship experience is highly beneficial).
  • Technical Skills: Foundational knowledge of modern programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, C#, or Java and web technologies HTML, CSS.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem‑solving abilities, excellent communication, and a proactive eagerness to learn.
  • Must have at least 1-3 years’ experience in MES and or IT Systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience dealing with at least one Tier‑1 automotive manufacturer.
  • Experience in Microsoft Suite Products.
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Relevant industry certifications are a plus.
  • Extensive experience, 5-10 years, with an ERP system especially in a manufacturing environment.
  • Computer Hardware Certification (CompTIA Network+ and Server+) or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of PLC communications.
  • Preference to candidates with ERP, Kepware, Systems Experience.
  • 3-5 Years of experience with IBM System i system administration and DB2 experience.
  • SQL development and experience with MS SQL 2008 and higher is highly desirable.
  • HDML/SQL experience an asset.
  • Programming Skills asset.
  • Knowledge of several programming language an asset.
  • Experience with Bartender labelling software and Funnel Cloud MES system assets.
  • Extensive experience, 5-10 years, with an ERP system especially in a manufacturing environment.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 – $90,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
