Job summary

WSP is seeking a Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property to support governance, risk and compliance for IP across a global organization. You will advise on IP ownership, licensing and protection, and work with stakeholders across Legal, IT, and Procurement to shape technology use and commercialization.

You will draft and negotiate IP-related contracts, contribute to policy development, and coordinate with external counsel for complex matters, including trademarks and patents.

Qualifications

• Qualified to practice law in Québec or another relevant jurisdiction.
• Approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant intellectual property legal experience, in private practice or in-house.
• Strong understanding of IP principles including ownership, licensing, and protection of proprietary rights.

Responsibilities

• Advise on IP issues arising from digital solutions, AI systems, and technology development and deployment.
• Draft, review and negotiate IP-related contract provisions and documents, including SaaS agreements and end-user notices.
• Support governance processes relating to Intellectual Property and coordinate with external counsel when needed.
• Contribute to IP due diligence, including ownership, third-party rights, and open-source considerations.
• Assist in IP portfolio administration including trademark clearance, patent filings, and protection of trade secrets.
