Job summary

Bombardier Transportation GmbH in Mississauga is offering a 12-month internship in mass properties and weight & balance for aerospace hardware. You will support weight and centre of gravity calculations and create Weight and Balance Reports under supervision.

The role is suited for students in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer, or software engineering who are proficient in Excel, CATIA V5, and scripting (VBA, MATLAB, Python).

Qualifications

  • Student in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer or software engineering.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Good written and verbal English communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mass properties analysis for aircraft components and assemblies.
  • Calculate Weight and Centre of Gravity for the Aircraft and create Weight and Balance Reports.
  • Define limits for Weight and Centre of Gravity and ballast requirements for Final Assembly Line.
  • Monitor supplier weights and support supplier audits as needed.
  • Support Production for Line Move or Jacking activities and improve Mass Properties processes.

What are your contributions to the team?
  • Performing physical weighing of the Aircraft, assemblies or components.
  • Calculations for Weight and Centre of Gravity of the Aircraft.
  • Creation of the Weight and Balance Reports.
  • Defining in the Weight and Centre of Gravity limitations for the Aircraft, ballast requirements for Final Assembly Line and technical analyses.
  • Monitor Suppliers weights and perform Supplier audits, as needed.
  • Support to Production for a Typical Line Move or Jacking activity.
  • Seeking continual improvement of Mass Properties Processes, Procedures and Software Tools.
  • Support the Systems Engineering team in investigating technical issues & governance;
  • Support engineering deliverables & governance by managing database and following up on outstanding actions;
  • Support Bombardier Operational Excellence System by tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPI) governance;
  • Facilitate meetings, create presentation packages, issue meeting minutes in a timely manner;
  • Develop good working relationships with various departments within Bombardier;
  • Seek continual improvement for internal processes and tools
How to thrive in this role?
  • You are a student in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer or software engineering.
  • You have good oral and technical writing skills in English (French is an asset).
  • You are proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and most notably Excel.
  • You possess good working knowledge CATIA V5.
  • Ability to program using VBA (great assets to have), as well as MATLAB, Python or SciLab scripts is an asset.
  • You possess good interpersonal skills in order to work well in a team and interface with other groups.
  • You can work independently and demonstrate initiative to achieve the goals established for you.
  • Occasional support outside of core hours.

It is important to note that our internship opportunities are open to students only, not new graduates. All our interns may be required to occasionally travel outside of Canada for training/work purpose.
