Job summary

Wilp Si Wilaxsinsxwhl Simgigyet (Chiefs House of Learning), Gitwangak, is seeking an Intermediate Teacher (Grade 4 to 7) to join a dedicated team. The role emphasizes incorporating Gitxsan language and culture across the curriculum and leading land-based projects throughout the year.

The successful candidate will hold a BC Teaching Certificate, have 3–5 years of teaching experience, and complete a Criminal Record Check. Start date: August 24, 2026; deadline: July 31, 2026.

Qualifications

  • BC Teaching Certificate is required.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience.
  • Ability to incorporate First Nations content across the curriculum.
  • Land based projects across the curriculum throughout the year are fundamental.
  • Criminal Record Check mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Teach grades 4–7 in a multi-grade, integrated classroom setting.
  • Set high expectations for academic achievement in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Differentiate curriculum to meet diverse student needs.
  • Integrate First Nations language and culture across the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with educational assistants, staff, and elders for on-the-land learning experiences.
  • Engage parents and community members to support student learning.

  • Experience teaching multi grade classrooms
  • Set high expectations and academic achievement for all students in a safe and nurturing environment
  • Experience with Read Well, Nelson Literacy, Jump Math and Math Makes Sense
  • Knowledge and experience with Acadience and CAT 2 Assessment tools
  • Differentiate curriculum expectations and teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students
  • Excellent behaviour management strategies
  • Team approach to working with colleagues, educational assistants, and support staff
  • Excellent inter-personal skills when engaging parents, community members, and elders in residence
  • Ability to create on the land experiences in a safe manner
  • Land based projects ensure the curriculum is relevant and focused on the student's language and culture

Wage: starting at $63,513 and is dependent upon experience
