Job summary

Tsilhqot'in/Carrier/Sekani is seeking a Grade 3 Teacher to plan, deliver, and assess curriculum while integrating Carrier/Dakelh language and land-based education. The role focuses on creating a culturally safe environment that supports academic achievement and cultural identity.

The successful candidate will implement lessons based on Ministry standards, collaborate with Elders and Cultural Teachers, and support students with individualized plans while engaging with families and the community.

Qualifications

  • B.Ed. and a valid BC Teaching Certificate.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture, history, and community contexts.
  • Experience with Indigenous students or similar educational settings.
  • Willingness to learn the Carrier/Dakelh language.
  • Valid Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Search).

Responsibilities

  • Cultural Integration: Integrate elements of Carrier/Dakelh language, history, traditions, and culture into curriculum.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Develop and implement lesson plans based on Ministry of Education standards, adapted for local contexts.
  • Pedagogy: Use experiential, land-based learning and traditional teaching methods.
  • Student Support: Assess progress, maintain records, and create remedial plans to support achievement.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in community events and engage with parents to support Indigenous education.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment.

Education

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and BC Teaching Certificate
Knowledge of First Nations culture, history, and community contexts
Experience working with Indigenous students or in a similar educational setting
Willingness to learn the Carrier/Dakelh language
Valid Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Search)

Position Summary

The Grade 3 Teacher in Nak'al Bun Elementary Schoolplans, delivers, and assesses curriculum while deeply integrating local Indigenous language, culture, and land-based education. Key Responsibilities
  • Cultural Integration: Integrate elements of the Carrier/Dakelh language, history, traditions, and culture into classroom curriculum.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Develop and implement lesson plans based on Ministry of Education standards, adapted for local community contexts and diverse learning styles.
  • Pedagogy: Utilize experiential, land-based learning and traditional teaching methods.
  • Student Support: Assess student progress regularly, maintain anecdotal records, and create remedial plans to help students achieve potential.
  • Community Engagement: Actively participate in community events, engage with parents, and show a commitment to cultural awareness and professional development in Indigenous education.
  • Classroom Management: Establish a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a valid Teaching Certificate (e.g., BC Ministry of Education Certification).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and sensitivity towards, First Nations culture, history, and community contexts.
  • Proven experience working with Indigenous students or in a similar educational setting.
  • Willingness to learn the Carrier/Dakelh language.
  • Valid Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Search).
