Job summary

BBA seeks an experienced intermediate estimator to join our consulting engineering team in Canada. You will track changes, estimate direct and indirect costs, and support project teams across mining and heavy industry sectors.

You will develop multidisciplinary estimates, organize by WBS, and contribute to value analyses while working with cost controllers and planners. A hybrid schedule and collaborative culture are offered.

Qualifications

• 5–12 years of relevant experience in consulting engineering or equivalent mix of education/experience.
• Experience with project estimates in mining and/or heavy industry sectors.
• Experience with cost estimation practices for conceptual, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
• Knowledge of cost estimation software.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Advanced English for collaboration with other offices and clients in English-speaking regions.
• Advanced French to collaborate with Québec clients and offices.
• Assets: knowledge of AACEI practices; experience in international project estimation; experience with construction and cost estimation methods across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Organize estimates by work breakdown structure and cost coding.
• Calculate hourly labour rates, productivity factors and indirect costs.
• Prepare assessments for allowances, markups and miscellaneous costs.
• Carry out material quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
• Participate in value analysis and trade-off studies.
• Collaborate with cost controllers and project planners.
• Contribute to improving estimation methods, tools and procedures.
• Assess client/subcontractor changes on site when applicable.
• Prepare estimation execution plans and basis of estimate documents.

Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements

• College diploma or university degree
• From 5 to 12 years of relevant experience in the consulting engineering field or any other combination of relevant education and experience
• Experience with project estimates in the mining and/or heavy industry sectors
• Experience with cost estimation practices for conceptual, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
• Knowledge of cost estimation software
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
• Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English-speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects
• Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec
• Asset: knowledge of AACEI practices
• Asset: experience in international project estimation
• Asset: experience with construction and cost estimation methods across multiple disciplines
