Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking an Electrical Engineer for its Trail, BC office to support industrial projects in energy, mining and renewables. You will work across the full lifecycle from studies and detailed design to on-site testing and commissioning, growing leadership and technical skills while collaborating across Western Canada.

The role requires 8+ years of relevant experience, Electrical Engineering degree, and EGBC P.Eng eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree or similar is required.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience on industrial projects (mining/renewables).
  • Eligible to register with EGBC as a P.Eng.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.
  • Experience preparing technical documents (reports, specs, plans).
  • Experience with design deliverables (single line diagrams, layouts).
  • Experience with project estimates and cost control.
  • Familiarity with IEEE Color Books, CEC and NEC.
  • Knowledge of HV/MV/LV equipment and commissioning.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites and other offices.
  • Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients, PMs, engineers, designers and drafters to produce deliverables.
  • Identify client needs and prepare reports, estimates, specs, quotations, and proposals.
  • Prepare and review design deliverables.
  • Perform electrical calculations and studies.
  • Coordinate drawings to standards with designers/drafters.
  • Conduct site inspections and testing/commissioning at client sites.
  • Define project scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Manage and supervise a small team of 1–2 people.
  • Maintain client communication on active and future projects.

  • Work collaboratively with clients, project managers, engineers, designers and drafters in the preparation of deliverables to BBA and client standards
  • Establish client needs, prepare or review reports, estimates, specifications, quotations and proposals
  • Prepare and review design deliverables
  • Perform electrical calculations and studies
  • Work with designers and drafters in the preparation of drawings to BBA and client standards

  • Perform testing and commissioning at client sites

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • Electrical Engineering Degree, or similar
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience on industrial projects within the mining or renewable power sectors
  • Eligible to register with EGBC as a P.Eng
  • A valid class 5 BC driver's license
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical documents such as reports, specifications, studies, plans, and instructions
  • Experience with design deliverables such as single line diagrams, layouts, elevations, material lists, cable and termination schedules, etc
  • Experience preparing and reviewing project estimates
  • Familiarity with IEEE Color Books, CEC and NEC
  • Practical knowledge of HV & MV substations including site layouts, reactive equipment, switching equipment, grounding, shielding, power distribution and lighting
  • Knowledge of HV/MV/LV electrical equipment specifications, testing and commissioning
  • Experience with projects in the mining, industrial, and utility sectors
  • Ability to travel on short notice to customer sites and other BBA offices
  • Experience in troubleshooting, commissioning and system installation
  • Excellent communication skills with high competency in English (both spoken and written)
