Intermediate Electrical Designer - Water/Wastewater

Your impact

Jacobs is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineering Designer to join our Electrical and Instrumentation & Control Team in Toronto.

You will be responsible for preparing design drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD and MicroStation), building models using 3D modelling software (Revit and OpenBuildings Designer) and design documentation using Microsoft Office, through the application of appropriate design criteria, technical manuals and standards. You will work closely with engineers and other team members to coordinate and complete project assignments, to efficiently deliver project design documentation. You will require a sound knowledge of procedures and technical concepts within the electrical field and understand the purpose and application of applicable code, regulations and standards to your work.

This is a technical role, with opportunities in the design development, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems, such as electrical power distribution up to 27.6kV and low voltage for controls, emergency and standby generation systems, lighting and lighting controls, telecommunications and security infrastructure, life safety systems, and fire alarm and detection systems. You will contribute to solutions to our clients to problems they didn’t even know they had. If you’re up for the challenge, we’ve been looking for someone just like you.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare design documents including specifications and drawings for electrical power, instrumentation, process control and automation systems.
  • Design delivery and coordination with lead project designers and managers.
  • Control system architecture and network design.
  • Quality check design deliverables.
  • Support Electrical design, startup, and field commissioning.
  • Review contractor submittals.
  • Field equipment start-up and troubleshooting.
  • Working independently to learn new systems and technology.
  • Organizing assignments to ensure design budgets and timelines are met.
  • Professional communications and interface with internal and external clients and contacts.

Here's what you'll need

  • College or university education in electrical, instrumentation, or mechanical engineering technology.
  • 2-5 years relevant experience, CET or EIT an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows based operating systems and software including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with 3D modelling software Revit and OpenBuildings Designer an asset.
  • Knowledge of Electrical design software (AGI32i, SKM, or Etap) an asset.
  • Experience working with PLCs, computer hardware, networking, and enterprise systems an asset.
  • Experience in the selection and application of Electrical and instrumentation and control equipment.
