Job summary

BBA Consultants seeks an Intermediate Electrical Designer to join the Thunder Bay office and support our Central Canada Electrical and Power Systems Engineering team. You will contribute across all project phases from front-end studies to field implementation, focusing on detailed design and technical quality.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, review drawings and datasheets, and guide junior engineers while building strong client relationships in mining, utility and heavy

Qualifications

• College diploma in electrical engineering technology or equivalent.
• 4+ years of electrical design experience in the mining or energy industries.
• Demonstrated experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial sectors.
• Understanding of medium-voltage and high-voltage power distribution systems.
• Experience with electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, circuit breakers and protection relays.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and other electrical design software platforms.
• Familiarity with Revit MEP, with focus on cable tray routing and layouts.
• Familiarity with 3D modelling platforms for equipment layouts and placement.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to travel for site work.

BBA is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer to bea part of our new Thunder Bay office to support our continued growth in CentralCanada. You’ll play a key role in all phases of engineering projects, fromfront end-studies to field implementation, with a focus on detailedengineering.

As a member of the BBA Central Canada Electrical and PowerSystems Engineering team, you’ll be responsible for technical quality, projectscope execution and regional collaboration with other technical experts.

• Contribute to engineering work packages for major electrical systems in the mining, utility and heavy industrial projects
  
• Design and review single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, equipment specifications and data sheets, cable routing, cable schedules, load lists and design calculations
  
• Support load-flow, short-circuit, voltage-drop, motor-starting, protection-coordination, arc-flash and grounding studies
  
• Support the design and specification of MV/HV substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, protection and control systems, grounding systems and electrical distribution systems
  
• Support utility-related projects involving substations, distribution systems, feeders and utility interconnections
  
• Coordinate electrical design requirements with civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation and controls and other engineering disciplines
  
• Participate in project meetings, design reviews, constructability reviews and client coordination meetings
  
• Perform site visits and field investigations and collect existing electrical system information
  
• Build strong client relationships and provide technical direction and mentorship to junior team members
  
• Contribute to BBA initiatives and foster a positive culture in the Thunder Bay office while delivering high-quality work

Summary of certifications and jobrequirements

• College diploma in electrical engineering technology or equivalent
• Over four years of electrical design experience in the mining or energy industries; consulting preferred
• Demonstrated experience in the mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial sectors
• Understanding of medium-voltage and high-voltage power distribution systems
• Experience with electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, circuit breakers, protection relays, motors, VFDs, cables and grounding systems
• Familiarity with applicable standards and codes, such as CEC, CSA, IEEE and relevant utility standards
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and other electrical design software platforms
• Familiarity with Revit MEP, with a focus on cable tray routing and layouts
• Familiarity with 3D modelling platforms for equipment layouts and placement
• Familiarity with industry standard electrical design and documentation practices
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams and communicate directly with clients, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders
• Strong asset: experience or exposure to electrical utilities, substations or transmission and distribution systems
• Asset: experience with power system analysis software, such as ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, CYME or similar tools
• Strong communication, organization and technical leadership skills
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel for site work, inspections, commissioning and start-ups
