Job summary

Soletanche Bachy Canada Inc. in Edmonton or Calgary seeks an Intermediate Design Engineer to join our deep foundations team. You will interpret geotechnical data, design pile foundations (CIP, CFA, driven piles), and prepare calculations and reports.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, 5+ years in foundation pile design, and a Canadian P.Eng. license. Strong communication and mentoring skills are essential. Experience with LPile/PLAXIS is a plus.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering.
• Experience: 5+ years of foundation pile design experience and knowledge of deep foundation systems.
• Soft skills: strong analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication; attention to safety.
• Certifications: P.Eng. license in Canada.

• Interpret geotechnical investigation reports and lab data to determine pile capacity and settlement behavior.
• Design geotechnical and structural pile foundations (CIP, CFA, driven piles).
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings and technical reports.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, structural and construction teams to resolve design/constructability issues.
• Provide technical support during construction, including RFIs and site visits.
• Contribute to value engineering and constructability reviews; mentor junior staff.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

• Interpret geotechnical investigation reports and laboratory test data to determine pile capacity, settlement behavior, etc.
• Perform geotechnical and structural design of pile foundations (e.g., CIP, CFA, and driven piles).
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, and technical reports.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, structural, and construction teams to resolve design and constructability issues.
• Provide technical support during construction, including RFIs and site visits.
• Contribute to value engineering, foundation optimization, and constructability reviews.
• Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality review of work completed by junior engineers.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful

• Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in foundation pile design. Experience with construction methods for deep foundation systems, including driven piles, bored piles, and Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles. Experience providing technical oversight and mentoring junior staff. Solid working knowledge of Canadian codes and standards.
• Soft skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Attention to detail and commitment to public safety. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and lead design tasks.
• Preferred skills: Proficiency with pile design software (e.g., LPile, PLAXIS 2D/3D, GRLWEAP, etc.). Strong knowledge of soil mechanics and deep foundation engineering. Experience with support of excavation, driven piles, and micropile design is considered an asset.
• Required designations or certifications: P.Eng. license in Canada.
