Job summary

ARCADIS Group in Vancouver seeks a Senior Geotechnical Field Engineer to lead investigations, surveys, and exploration programs, and to support the Senior Resident Engineer on heavy civil, transportation and marine projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, interpret ground conditions, prepare constructability studies, review method statements, and manage scopes, budgets, and schedules while upholding CFEM/CSA standards and delivering designs in accordance with EOR requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of field geotechnical engineering experience on transportation, heavy civil, ports, marine or large infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geotechnical, civil, marine, structural engineering or a closely related discipline (postgraduate qualification preferred).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Working knowledge of CFEM 2023 and the CSA S6-19, S6-25 and applicable Canadian standards.
  • Proven field experience in marine and heavy civil works, deep excavations, quay walls, sheet pile walls, concrete walls, shore protection, piling work, retaining structures, ground improvement techniques, earthworks and marine geotechnics.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical investigations, GIRs, GDRs and interpretation of field and laboratory data.
  • Experience with liquefaction assessment, seismic geotechnics and soil‑structure interaction.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem‑solving skills with the ability to collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with proven experience preparing high quality engineering reports, memoranda and design documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage contractor scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, and technical execution for geotechnical investigations and site surveys.
  • Interpret and characterize ground conditions based on geotechnical and geophysical data, translating findings into practical design parameters and recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed constructability studies and methodologies for shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, excavations, slopes, ground improvement, and related structures.
  • Provide field reviews of contractor submissions, on‑site support, and assess changed conditions and unforeseen ground conditions during construction.
  • Review construction method statements, shop drawings, risk assessments, and manage multidisciplinary project scopes, subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and risks.
  • Mentor and guide junior and intermediate engineers, supporting their technical development and maintaining high standards of practice.

Job description

Senior Geotechnical Field Engineer responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing geotechnical site works such as investigations, surveys, and exploration programs. Supports the Senior Resident Engineer during construction of heavy civil, transportation, and marine projects, providing technical guidance to ensure that temporary and permanent works are delivered in accordance with approved design intent, contract requirements, applicable codes, and the requirements of the Engineers of Record (EORs). Will mentor junior engineers and contribute to the strengthening of the geotechnical practice in Western Canada.

Salary

Salary range: $110,000 - $160,000. Base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on location, skills, experience and qualifications.
