Job summary

Soletanche Bachy Canada is seeking a Foundation Drill Rig Leadman (Front End) for site-based, full-time work in Eastern Canada. The role leads front-end drilling activities, collaborates with the Drill Rig Operator and project team, and ensures safety and productivity on site.

Offered pay rate is $46.46–$53.46 per hour under the applicable collective agreement, with opportunities to advance in a long-established deep foundations company across North America.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with foundation drilling or deep foundations is an asset.
  • Experience coordinating field crews on active projects is an asset.
  • Strong safety commitment and ability to lead by example.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

  • Support safe and efficient operation of foundation drilling equipment and tooling.
  • Lead and coordinate front-end drilling activities with the Drill Rig Operator and project team.
  • Assist with drill setup, tooling changes, maintenance, and mobilization.
  • Direct and support ground crews to ensure safe, productive work.
  • Monitor operations and communicate conditions, progress, and concerns to supervisors.
  • Ensure tools, casing, reinforcement and materials are prepared when required.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections and assist with maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe drill area and equipment.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and site inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with company, client, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
  • Assist with other deep foundation construction activities as required.

Job Type: Site-based, Full-time.

Location: Eastern Canada. Our head office is located in Hamilton, Ontario.

Pay Rate: $46.46- $53.46 per hour (in accordance with the applicable collective agreement).

Key Responsibilities of the Role
  • Support the safe and efficient operation of foundation drilling equipment and associated tooling.
  • Lead and coordinate front-end drilling activities in collaboration with the Drill Rig Operator and project team.
  • Assist with drill setup, tooling changes, maintenance, and mobilization activities.
  • Direct and support ground crews during drilling operations to ensure work is completed safely and productively.
  • Monitor drilling operations and communicate ground conditions, production progress, and operational concerns to supervisors and crew members.
  • Ensure drilling tools, casing, reinforcement, and other materials are prepared and available when required.
  • Perform pre-operational equipment inspections and assist with preventative maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around the drill rig and associated equipment.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, hazard assessments, safety meetings, and site inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, client, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
  • Assist with other deep foundation construction activities as required.

This position is governed by the applicable union collective agreement. Candidates must be members in good standing with Local 183 or Local 837 or be willing and eligible to obtain membership upon hire in accordance with union and project requirements.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Experience working with foundation drilling equipment, deep foundations, geotechnical drilling, caisson drilling, shoring, or related construction activities is considered an asset. Experience supporting drill rigs and coordinating field crews on active construction projects is considered an asset. Experience in heavy civil, geotechnical, or deep foundation construction is considered an asset.
  • Soft skills: Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices. Ability to lead by example and work effectively within a team environment. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Reliable, dependable, and self‑motivated. Ability to work in physically demanding environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Required designations or certifications: Must be a member in good standing with Local 183 or Local 837 or be willing and eligible to join upon hire. Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites throughout Eastern Canada. WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain). Working at Heights certification considered an asset. First Aid/CPR certification considered an asset. Additional construction safety certifications are considered an asset.
