Job summary

Soletanche Bachy Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled welder for deep foundation and construction support across Eastern Canada.

The role involves welding, cutting, fitting, and maintenance of drilling equipment and piling systems on site and in the shop, with interpretation of drawings and procedures. The position requires union membership or eligibility (Local 183 or Local 837), valid certifications (CWB asset), and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Welding apprenticeship is an asset.
  • Experience: Welding in construction, heavy civil, or industrial settings is preferred.
  • Soft skills: teamwork, attention to detail, strong communication, and safety focus.
  • Certifications: Local union membership (Local 183 or Local 837) or willingness to join; CWB certification is a strong asset.
  • Other: Valid driver's license and ability to travel; WHMIS and safety certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding, cutting, fitting, and fabrication work in support of deep foundation and construction operations.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and welding procedures to complete work accurately and efficiently.
  • Repair and maintain drilling equipment, tooling, piling systems, structural components, and other construction-related equipment.
  • Inspect welded assemblies to ensure quality and conformance with project requirements.
  • Operate welding and cutting equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, modifications, and repairs both in the field and shop environments.
  • Work closely with Superintendents, Forepersons, Operators, Mechanics, and project teams to support project execution.
  • Travel to project sites throughout Eastern Canada as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Job description

Location: Eastern Canada. Our head office is located in Hamilton, Ontario.

Pay Rate: $44.96- $51.96 per hour (in accordance with the applicable collective agreement).

Key Responsibilities of the Role

  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections, and hazard assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, client, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
  • Travel to project sites throughout Eastern Canada as required.
  • Support other construction activities as required.

This position is governed by the applicable union collective agreement. Candidates must be members in good standing with Local 183 or Local 837 or be willing and eligible to obtain membership upon hire in accordance with union and project requirements.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Completion of a Welding apprenticeship program or equivalent training is considered an asset.
  • Experience: Welding experience within construction, heavy civil, industrial, manufacturing, or related industries is considered an asset. Experience performing field welding in construction environments is considered an asset. Experience supporting heavy equipment, drilling equipment, piling systems, or structural steel is considered an asset.
  • Soft skills: Strong commitment to producing high-quality work and maintaining safe work practices. Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in physically demanding environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Required designations or certifications: Must be a member in good standing with Local 183 or Local 837 or be willing and eligible to join upon hire. Valid CWB certification is considered a strong asset. Valid driver\'s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout Eastern Canada. WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain). Working at Heights certification considered an asset. First Aid/CPR certification considered an asset. Additional construction safety certifications are considered an asset.
