StructureCraft Abbotsford, BC, is seeking an Intermediate 3D Designer to join our team. You will translate architectural information into 3D models, shop drawings, and CNC files for fabrication and erection of large timber projects across North America.

The role requires at least 3 years of design/drafting experience, a 2-year engineering design & drafting education, strong Rhino and BIM skills, and excellent English communication.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 2-year college program in engineering design and drafting technology.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in 3D design/drafting.
• Knowledge of drafting standards and principles.
• Strong spatial reasoning and geometry skills.
• Proficiency in Rhino and BIM software (Revit/TEKLA/Bluebeam).
• Knowledge of timber and steel design & detailing.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

StructureCraft is seeking an Intermediate 3D Designer (NOC 22212) to join our team to work on some of the largest mass timber projects across North America. As we both fabricate and erect our designs, 3D Designers play a key role in our organization, acting as the hub of design information from the architect and our engineering team, and translating that information into 3D models, layout and shop drawings, and CNC files used for fabrication on our shop floor and erection on site.

Your Responsibilities

• 3D modeling from conceptual phase through to fabrication, assemblies, and installation
• Design for fabrication – we build everything we design, so prototyping and close interaction with the shop floor and CNC machines is critical;
• Creation of fabrication drawings and CNC files;
• Working with fabrication crews and CNC machines to ensure models are translated accurately into human- and machine-readable information;
• Production of detailed drawings for approval, engineering, and production;
• Coordinate design information with external teams, engineers, and contractors;
• Standardization of connections, fasteners & fabrication techniques to improve production efficiency;
• Continual improvement of design & drafting process to improve efficiency and reduce design cycle times;
• Manage and prioritize tasks to meet scheduled deadlines;
• Maintaining and growing construction industry technical knowledge.

Position Requirements

• Must have completion of minimum 2-year college program in engineering design and drafting technology;
• Must have a minimum three years of experience
• Knowledge in drafting standards and principles
• Good knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and a strong aptitude for spatial reasoning
• Strong communication skills and a good understanding of the English language, both orally
• and in writing
• Strong computer skills and proficiency
• Strong knowledge of Rhino software
• Proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as HSB CAD, Revit,
• TEKLA Structures, Bluebeam, or equivalent software.
• Knowledge and experience with timber design & detailing
• Knowledge of steel design & detailing
• A desire to learn and continually develop;
• Team player, able to prioritize tasks with exceptional organizational skills;
• Detail-oriented and strong problem-solving skills.

Who will you be working with?

You will be working with many of our staff and reporting to our 3D Design & Drafting Manager.

Position terms and conditions

• Employment Type: Permanent, full-time position
• Hours per week: 40 hours
• Location: Full-time in person at Abbotsford office located at 1929 Foy Street, Abbotsford, BC, V2T6B1.

• Hourly wage for this position: $38.40 per hour

The pay range for this role is:
